Diageo offers an opportunity to be part of a dual function through the Global
Microbiology Laboratories based in Dublin and the Brewing R&D team. The teams
deliver microbiological expertise and execute research and project development at
the pilot plant. This requires the execution of relevant tests to determine quality of
materials, process and finished products. The role of the Lab Technologist
encompasses the safe execution of daily routine tasks of microbiological testing
and fermentation experimentation.
Key Accountabilities/Specific Skills
• Capability to execute relevant tasks to deliver effective monitoring of materials,
processes and products.
• An indicative (not exhaustive) list of tasks is provided. Note that the tasks will
vary dependent on the stage of the research/projects:
i. Media preparation and autoclaving
ii. Sampling
iii. Serial dilution, spread/pour plating and other microbiological enumeration
techniques
iv. Microfiltration
v. DNA Extraction
vi. PCR
vii. SOP writing
viii. COSHH assessments
ix. Material prepping
x. Data analysis, report writing and presentations
xi. Experience with lab information management
Responsibilities:
Determine quality of materials, process and finished product to support supply
chain needs through:

Knowledge and experience in the brewing industry would be an advantage.
• One year experience in a laboratory would be an advantage.
• Evidence of communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills,
with the ability to effectively interact with key stakeholders.
• Physical capability to perform laboratory bench work utilising the relevant
techniques and equipment to perform the tasks.
• Evidence of understanding of the methods used for product testing, microbial
isolation and identification.
• Must have practical experience of aseptic technique applied to microbiological
and genetic analytical techniques.
Minimum bachelor's degree in life sciences such as food/beverage science,
microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology or significant demonstrable
experience (>1 year).
