Laboratory Technician

 

Global Technical: Science and Technology (S&T) provides technical leadership for Diageo’s Whisky, Spirits, Beer, RTD and Non-Alc business globally.

The purpose of the role is to deliver analytical measurement and insight to improve Diageo’s production processes and enable new ventures. This role carries out flavour and process chemistry analysis on behalf of the Process, Capacity, Agility and Futures team.  

The role will include extensive lab work using techniques such as GC, HPLC, HPLC-MS and GC-MS. The role will also include support in the development of new analytical methods as required. The role requires a proactive approach in interpretation of results to assist the team in delivery of flavour and process insights that support our production operations.

The role is based at the Analytical laboratory at the Diageo Technical Centre, Menstrie. This role reports to the Flavour Chemistry Specialist.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Operate and deliver processes that ensures the Health and Safety of our consumers, customers and employees. Work in a way that ensures compliance with our Diageo Code of Business conduct.
  • ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY: Proficient and self-reliant in analytical chemistry techniques and results interpretation and method development. Understanding of Diageo production processes and how these link to analytical results.
  • Basic understanding of sensory science. Ambition and drive to develop sensory leadership skills.
  • TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT. Maintain knowledge of new developments in analysis. Be pro-active in apply developments to solving business problems.
  • PROJECT DELIVERY. Ability to manage and deliver small projects to deliver benefits to the business.
  • Ownership, pro-activity and judgement to drive solutions to completion.
  • TECHNICAL PROBLEM SOLVING. Apply technical knowledge and experience to manage and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION. Ability to build trusted relationships, communicate and influence effectively in order to drive the improvements suggested by the scientific data. Ability to use the scientific data to drive change in a business context (awareness of business benefits, risks and obstacles).

 

Skills

Entry Level Requirements – Capabilities, Skills & Experience:

  • As a minimum at entry level the jobholder should be degree qualified in science or equivalent. Alternatively, a minimum of 5 years' experience in an analytical or food science laboratory.
  • ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY: Good practical knowledge of operation, and maintenance of analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC, HPLC-MS and GC-MS.
  • Experience of Brewing and/ or Distilling and/ or Food and Drink Manufacture. Knowledge of the science and technology of brewing and distilling and associated processes.
  • Clear thinker and communicator with good analytical and planning skills. Excellent communication skills – verbal & written, and an ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • CUSTOMER FOCUSED: Understanding customer and business needs, cultural awareness,

NETWORK: Good and active network in analytical chemistry inside and outside Diageo in order to support the team as a global centre of excellence.

Education

As a temporary contractor, you'll be employed by our Managed Service Provider, Magnit Global, who manage most of our temporary contract hiring, you will not be employed by Diageo
