SHIFT QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN

The Quality Assurance Department is an integral part of the production operation within Diageo Marshalls Road, Belfast, providing analytical support and technical expertise in the areas of Quality, Food Safety and Quality Management Systems. A Key objective of DIAGEO Belfast Belfast is to ensure full compliance of packaged products with statutory requirements and technical & market specifications whilst driving the Company’s Continuous Improvement agenda and Strategic Plan in the area of Quality.

The Quality Assurance Technician is an integral member of the shift teams and will:

  • Work as part of the shift operational team following the required shift pattern (continental shift pattern and holiday cover as required)
  • Ensure all Analytical and micro samples/checks are completed as required by the Quality Sampling Plan. This is required on both production lines, and various other locations may be determined.
  • Operational based role in the factory environment, walking is required to ensure the sample plan is achieved.
  • Analyse QA/Production results and documentation to identify potential quality issues, follow-up any issues and provide high quality feedback to shift teams, management and manufacturing/quality improvement teams.
  • Monitor and validate quality instrumentation.
  • Ensure effective implementation of Site’s Quality Management Systems, as appropriate.
  • Set Up, Validate and Troubleshoot quality instrumentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Act as the point of contact between production and third Parties for all Quality related Matters whilst on Shift.
  • Ensure all safety, health, environmental, quality and housekeeping policies and procedures are complied with in accordance with company requirements.
  • Reverse days are scheduled in the rota to meet contractual hours and support with focus areas such as projects.

  • Acts as the contact between the site and internal customers and third parties including Suppliers, Customers, Brand Services and Demand Company for quality related matter that occurs on shift.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • central point of information and contact between the shift teams, management and manufacturing/quality improvement. They will ensure appropriate and accurate information is disseminated.
  • technical expert and will drive the initial stages of troubleshooting processes in conjunction with the Shift Leader.
  • Key leadership role in quality at Shift Team meetings.

Purpose of Role

The Shift Quality Co-ordinator is a technical specialist in the area of Quality Assurance and will provide analysis and expertise to the shift team to ensure all products packaged on shift comply with Statutory, Technical and Market Specifications.

To work with multi-functional teams across the site to continually improve systems and processes.

TOP 3-5 ACCOUNTABILITIES

Ensure process analysis is completed in accordance with appropriate documented sampling plans (this will be largely composed of liquid analysis) Time management is a required skill.

Provide clear information and analytical support to Team Lead and Shift Manger.

Ensure effective implementation of Site’s Quality Management Systems, as appropriate.

Validation and Troubleshooting of all quality instrumentation to ensure accuracy and reliability of information.

Provide analytical support to initiate problem solving with shift teams, and close out with clear root cause identification for continuous improvement activities.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

3rd Level Qualification in Food Technology/ Related Area.

Or;

One GCSE “A” Level qualification or equivalent in a Science Subject with a minimum of two Year’s Experience in a Bottling/Canning or Food Production environment with knowledge of Quality Assurance Principles.

Or;

Minimum of five Year’s Experience in a Bottling/Canning or Food Production environment with knowledge of Quality Assurance Principles.

Computer literacy in Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word essential.

Knowledge of HACCP and Food Safety and ideally a good understanding of microbiology and chemistry.

Diploma in Packaging Technology and/or a formal qualification in Auditing of Quality Management Systems would be desirable.
